Top 3 Takeaways from Dark 17th Jan 2023

This week’s Dark came to you from Portland Oregon, with 7 matches, featuring Matt Menard, Angelo Parker, Powerhouse Hobbs and more... Here are your Highlights

#1 A Budding Friendship

As we saw a few weeks back on Dynamite, Daniel Garcia was tasked with following the guidance of, fellow Jericho Appreciation Society member, Sammy Guevara. Since then we’ve seen them in interviews and segments together, but on this episode of Dark, we got to see them in tag team action for the first time.

The Spanish God was being his usually obnoxious self, really leaning into the fan heat that he now receives. He started by showing-up Garcia during their entrance, and forcing a hug on him before entering the ring. This was not the last non-consensual hug he gave the Dragon Slayer, forcing his brotherly love on him multiple times during the match, all to the dismay of Garcia.

Towards the end Garcia did seem to follow Guevara’s leadership, ultimately picking up another JAS win.

#2 A Non-existent Offer

Once again this week, we saw the head of the Trustbusters in competition, against newcomer Action Andretti. In typical Ari Daivari fashion, he proposed to Andretti to let Ari just pick up a quick win, but not for cash this time. No, this time Ari offered the back up of his Trustbusters. Which begs the question, where are they? Why are you alone, again? And why only last night were you teaming up with 2 people who aren’t even part of the Trustbusters?!

Andretti ultimately declined the offer and picked up the win against the lonely ‘buster, despite his facial burn looking much worse than it did only 6 days ago... the joys of showing these things out of sequence!

#3 Your ROH Main Event...

At this point I do feel as though they should rename Dark to ‘Ring of Honor’ as it seems to be the only time we see the ROH champions in action. Non-the-less, in your main event we had Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta, team up with World Champion Claudio Castagnoli against The Butcher & The Blade (with The Bunny of course).

The match was late to start, with Butcher & Blade jumping the BCC as they were making their way to the ring. This pretty much left Claudio on his own for the entire match, The King of Swing fought off the barrage until Yuta could make it back onto the apron. From there he got the hot tag, gave some fast flurried offense and picked up the win after a tag-team rocket-launcher manoeuvre.
