ROH Talent Including World & Pure Champions are Now Officially Free Agents

It has been a very uncertain time for Ring of Honor fans, but especially the Ring of Honor talent after it was announced in late 2021 that ROH would be going on hiatus after Final Battle 2021. The hiatus was imposed so Ring of Honor could re-evaluate and repackage their product after the massive impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic through 2020 and 2021.

With the announcement of the hiatus, it was also announced that Ring of Honor talents would become free agents when the year came to a close. There has been some reports and updates regarding which talents are now free agents and now find themselves in a situation where their ROH future is not guaranteed.

Fightful Select has confirmed that the following talent are now officially free agents, amongst others.

  • ROH Original World Champion Jonathan Gresham
  • ROH Pure Champion Josh Woods
  • Silas Young
  • Rhett Titus
  • Shane Taylor
  • Mike Bennett
  • Beer City Bruiser
  • Brian Milonas
  • Danhausen (Very Nice, Very Evil)

In Gresham’s case it has been reported by Fightful Select that he has actually been a free agent for a couple of weeks. The ROH Original World Champion received papers to finalise his end of contract the week after the Final Battle Pay Per View, an event where Gresham defeated Jay Lethal to become the ROH Original World Champion after current champion Bandido was pulled after testing positive for COVID. Due to the situation with Bandido, Gresham took home the Original ROH World Championship Belt.

It is being reported that The Octopus still has a very positive relationship with Ring of Honor, which has enabled him to defend the championship outside the currently closed promotion. Gresham is set to defend the title against Chris Sabin at Impact Wrestling's Hard to Kill on January 8th, then against Josh Alexander on January 16th at the debut Terminus event.

Since Ring of Honor went on hiatus, some ex-ROH talent has surfaced in other promotions. Examples being that Pure Champion Josh Woods recently appeared on AEW Dark, ROH Women’s Champion Rok-C was recently spotted at a WWE Tryout, Jay Lethal has signed with AEW and ROH Tag Team Champions The Briscoe Brothers are seemingly set to collide with FTR who also hold the AAA Tag Team Championship after FTR appeared post-match at Final Battle.

Ring of Honor is currently on hiatus until the second quarter of 2022. It is anyone’s guess at this time what the company restructure will look like and what talent will appear or return to the prominent independent promotion.
