A WWE star has posted a heartfelt message on the anniversary of a match with The Briscoes in ROH back in 2007.
Prior to Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens signing with WWE in 2013 and 2014 respectively, the pair made their name on the independent scene as El Generico, and Kevin Steen – competing for promotions such as Ring of Honor and PWG to name a few.
As highlighted by ROH Relived on Twitter, one of Zayn and Owens’ most well remembered matches from their time in ROH recently passed its 17th anniversary.
Taking place at the ROH Man Up event on September 15, 2007, Jay & Mark Briscoe defeated Owens and Zayn in a Ladder War, with The Briscoes claiming the ROH World Tag Team Championships as a result.
In reaction to the anniversary of the bout, Zayn penned a heartfelt message conveying how instrumental The Briscoes were to both his own career and tag team wrestling as a whole.
Zayn wrote:
The Briscoes are the best tag team of the past 25 years, and on a short list for best of all time.
At least a dozen top wrestlers today will tell you the best/toughest tag matches of their careers were with Dem Boys. I wouldn’t be here without them.
I miss you Jay. Love you Mark.
Jay Briscoe tragically passed away on January 17, 2023 as a result of a car accident in Delaware.
Since his brother’s passing Mark Briscoe has continued his brothers legacy as a singles star in AEW, following Jay’s footsteps in April by becoming the ROH World Champion – a title he still holds today.
