WWE has provided an ‘injury update’ on Cody Rhodes after being given a piledriver by Kevin Owens after Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The main event of Saturday Night’s Main Event saw Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes defend his title against Kevin Owens, in a grudge match built up since October’s Bad Blood PLE.
The match proved to be one full of drama, with two different referees finding themselves laid out inadvertently at separate times before Rhodes picked up the win to retain his gold.
After the show went off the air an enraged Owens attacked Rhodes, delivering a package piledriver in an attack reminiscent of a month prior when Owens took out Randy Orton on SmackDown.
Much like Orton, Rhodes was taken away on a stretcher with WWE now providing a storyline update on Rhodes’ status via WWE.com.
The update reads as follows:
The historic return of Saturday Night’s Main Event ended with Cody Rhodes retaining the Undisputed WWE Title in a thrilling match, but Kevin Owens would bring an end to the night with a heinous attack on The American Nightmare after the broadcast went off the air.
Earlier today it was confirmed that Cody Rhodes suffered cervical swelling and was kept overnight at a local hospital for observation.
While X-Rays were negative for a fracture, Rhodes has been officially diagnosed with axial compression of the cervical spine, as well as a cervical strain with spasm.
