A spoiler has emerged about WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins’ planned opponent for SummerSlam 2023 in Detroit on August 5th.
Seth Rollins’ last title defence came at Money in the Bank on July 1st against Finn Balor, but he’s remained embroiled with Finn Balor’s Judgment Day group ever since then.
Well, there’s a good reason for that, as according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the plan for SummerSlam is actually a rematch between Seth Rollins and Finn Balor.
Finn Balor and the rest of Judgment Day appeared on NXT this week, with Finn Balor and Damian Priest beating NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams in the main event, with Finn Balor pinning Carmelo Hayes.
Some people might have thought Finn Balor pinning Carmelo Hayes signified Finn Balor being added to the NXT Title match at the Great American Bash on July 30th with Carmelo Hayes and Ilja Dragunov to make it a three-way, but Meltzer believes that to be unlikely because there’s a move to protect Finn Balor ahead of the Seth Rollins match.
Meltzer said:
“Finn is wrestling Seth, that’s for SummerSlam.
“Finn’s being protected right now. Finn’s beating everyone because they’ve got to get Finn back ready for Seth.
“I do know that the plan was that Finn’s going over (winning) constantly because they’ve got to rehab him for Seth because that’s at SummerSlam.”
