Was Trick Williams’ winning the North American Title meant for Mustafa Ali before his WWE exit?
One of the more surprising names that was released by WWE in recent weeks was Mustafa Ali. While the superstar had expressed a desire to leave in 2022, he’d since moved to NXT and gained some significant momentum, changing his presentation in the process.
This led to a feud with Dominik Mysterio, and the superstar secured a shot at the North American Title at No Mercy. However, despite the match being confirmed and advertised, Mustafa Ali was released meaning a late replacement had to be found.
That replacement arrived in the form of Trick Williams and he went on to defeat Dominik Mysterio to claim the title. This sparked speculation that Mustafa Ali was supposed to win the title, but seemingly that wasn’t the case.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez explained that Mustafa Ali was never supposed to win, and the title change was something of a last-minute decision.
“Ali was not supposed to win. Now, I will say this. They have not announced an NXT yet, but I would not be the least bit surprised if within the next week or two. Trick offers a rematch to Dominik and Carmelo screws him out of the title and we get the belt back on Dominik because clearly, the belt is going to end up back on Dominik soon because he was never supposed to lose it. He wasn’t going to lose it to Ali. And so that would also play into this Carmelo-Trick storyline where Carmelo is jealous. That trick has a title and he does not.”
Many people within WWE Frustrated By Mustafa Ali’s Release
While some fans were confused by Mustafa Ali’s release, it’s been reported that feeling extended within WWE. The report stated that “several people” were unhappy with the move and frustrated by the lack of communication, which saw Mustafa Ali advertised for a match that had to be scrapped.
Furthermore, creativity had been planned out for Mustafa Ali, and that also had to be put to one side.
