David Crockett the legendary promoter of the 1980s and Ricky Steamboat are both in attendance in Winston-Salem North Carolina. Three massive matches have been announced beforehand. However, travel issues may have created a kink in the plans of Tony Khan. MJF drover over ten hours to be there.
Opening contest is one of those horrible eliminator matches I hate. MJF clad in red, white, and blue ready to square off against the Protostar Kyle Fletcher. MJF immediately goes to the outside to draw heat. He demanded Fletcher lock up like a man just to be a villain and not do it himself. MJF targets the arm of Fletcher. Fletcher did a nice jawbreaker before getting taken down by MJF again. Kyle Fletcher blocks the Kangaroo Kick attempt by MJF. The crowd seems to be torn between MJF and Fletcher. Sit down side slam by Fletcher makes MJF have to kick out at two. A drop toe hold sent Fletcher into the barricade. This was after MJF was hit by a suicide dive from Fletcher. MJF messes up and goes over the barricade. Kyle Fletcher with an impressive flip over the barricade essentially did a cannonball to MJF before they returned to the ring. Massive elbow drop from the top rope gets Kyle Fletcher a 2 count. MJF with a Hammerlock DDT. The pin was odd as MJF just laid on top of him. Back and forth blows end with both men down on the mat. Fletcher drapes one arm over MJF just for it to be countered into a Salt of the Earth. A small slip of MJF on the top rope as Fletcher was setting up the top rope brain buster. Fletcher is soon able to get a jumping tombstone piledriver on MJF after they get off the top. Don Callis leaves commentary to give Kyle Fletcher a screwdriver. Kyle contemplates using it before throwing it away. This got Kyle Fletcher a uppercut to the yam bags, a kangaroo kick, and finally a sheer drop brain buster which lead to the one two three. MJF wins. After the match MJF opens Kyle Fletcher out with his Dynamite Diamond. Will Ospreay comes out before MJF hits the Tiger Driver which Will Refuses to do. Ospreay calls for the dock as Kyle doesn't move and keeps his eyes closed.
Mariah May stars the match with a massive headbutt to Viva Van. Followed by a release German Suplex. This match could be over faster than one would want. The match lasted longer than I expected as it went into commercial break. The first commercial was for the new TNT Overdrive which will see WB Discovery and AEW partner for a new show. Probably about a ten minute beat down (I didn't check the start time of the match). May doesn't go for a pin after Mayday but instead opts to hit a Storm One. Mariah May opens a birthday present from Toni who then attacks. The refs break up the brawl.
Tazz is kicked off commentary for this match. Bryan Keith jumpstarts the match. Shibata does not let him have the advantage for long. Shibata moves from submission to submission before then stomping the arm. Keithe rolls to the outside. This allows the Bad Apple to take control. Keith works over Katsuyori Shibata's arm. Shibata puts on a claw to Keith then transitions right into a arm bar for the win. The Learning Tree beats down Shibata after the match. Hook returns!
A sit down interview with Jim Ross and Swerve Strickland was the next big segment. Not much in this did anything to excite me for the match. It was just Swerve keeping up his "I Don't Care" attitude. Nothing massive came from it.
Orange Cassidy teams with FTR for a match against the Rush, Roderick Strong, and Beast Mortos. On tv you could see the stars from the FTR shirt dampening the surprise but still a nice trios. Matt Taven and Mike Bennett go behind the barricade to sit for the match. Rush and Dax start the match. Rush with some mighty chops before tagging in Beast Mortos. Quick tags by the team brings in Roderick Strong. Dax gets Strong into his corner then his team starts to do the quick tags. Dax, Cash, and Orange all put there hands in their pants. Lots of quick tags all around in this match. Mortos does execute a pop up Samoan Drop on Cash for a two count. Cash is getting the beating as Roderick stops the tag with a back breaker on Strong. Dax gets tagged in and starts to throw hands. Spine Buster from Dax to Beast Mortos. Orange Cassidy is jus standing on the apron. Mortos blind tags himself in and when Roderick Strong takes Dax down, Mortos does a spinning dive onto the downed Dax. Taven and Bennet attack Dax when the ref isn't looking. Mortos is the recipient of a Deja vu by Orange Cassidy. Mortos then starts to spear his opponents. Cash breaks that streak with a powerbomb. Beach break to Rush gets Cassidy a one count. Chaos reigns in this match. Stun Dog on the floor hurts Orange Cassidy's coccyx but he Orange Punch on Rush. FTR and Orange win the match.
After the match the Acclaimed minus Daddy Ass come out. Dax says to break thru security for the fight as they are real men.
Handicap match shows off the power of Kamille tonight. I get that Kamille is the musccle for Mone but it blows that she doesn't get her own music. Pump kick to Opponent One before opponent two runs from Kamille. Opponent One back up and jumps on Kamille's back which does nothing to stop Kamille. Torture Rack bomb to Opponent One. She then pins both opponents for the win. Kamille clears the ring as Mercedes Mone start a promo. A bit of a shoot/work by mentioning Britt Baker's suspension. Tony Schiovane announced the lifting on Britt Baker's suspension. She appears on via satellite.
Jeff Jarrett doesn't allow the match to even start before attacking Danielson on the ramp in this good ol' Memphis style anything goes match. Jeff moves to a chair since he already broke his guitar. The action breaks into the crowd. Trash spills everywhere as Jarrett throws a trash can into Bryan on the concourse. YES! Kicks by Danielson. Jeff Jarrett answers with a low blow. Suplex onto a trash can by Jarrett. Seein this many people on the concourse makes me wonder do they plant these individuals or is there really that many people up during the main event? Most likely a plant. The two men battle back to ringside. Massive drop kick to Jeff Jarrett smashing him between Danielson and the barricade. Jeff throws a chair into Danielson as he was flying off the ring for a knee. That is going to hurt in the morning. Double J starts to focus on the leg of Bryan Danielson. Spider Superplex by Danielson. Jarrett locks in a Figure Four. Ricky states if he had a dollar for every time he was locked in one he would be a rich man. I think Ricky is already a rich man. Danielson breaks the hold by kitting Jeff with a chair on the knees. Danielson kicks out of a Stroke on the chair. Jeff Jarrett locks in a Scorpion Deathlock. Bryan Danielson transitions into a LeBelle Lock. Jeff gets out and the two start to trade punches. Enziguri by Jeff stops the exchage. The American Dragon wins with a knee. Karen Jarrett, Sonjay Dutt, and Jay Lethal comes out to check on Jeff. Wheeler Yuta comes out to check on Bryan Danielson. Steamboat also check on Danielson. Steamboat raises both men's hands. Swerve comes out to stop the feel good moment. Swerve makes the challenge to Wheeler Yuta for next week so he also has a warm up match.
Hated how most of the matches ended with a brawl afterwards. Didn't mind the musical chairs on commentary.
