The introduction of a new championship sees Barry Windham emerge with the gold. Here he talks about standing side by side with Dusty Rhodes and defending his belt against Arn Anderson.

Windham had long been considered one of the best all-around wrestlers in pro wrestling, and 1987 was considered by many to be his finest year ever. He had some classic matches against Ric Flair, many of which ran for 60 and even 90(!) minute time-limit draws.

He was considered a possible heir to the throne when The Nature Boy eventually passed the torch on to someone else. Despite their many main events together in the mid-80s, Barry was never able to capture the Big Gold from Slick Ric.
