JON MOXLEY’S DIAGNOSIS REVEALED, WASN’T PLANNED TO LOSE AEW INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AT DYNAMITE G

An update has emerged on the situation with Jon Moxley following last night’s September 20th AEW Dynamite Grand Slam show.

Jon Moxley dropped the AEW International Championship last night to Rey Fenix, but that’s nowhere near the end of the story.

It appeared Jon Moxley had suffered a legitimate injury, and that much has now been confirmed.

PWTorch reports that Jon Moxley has been diagnosed with a concussion that occurred during the pre-match brawl rather than during the match itself.

Jon Moxley had planned to retain the championship, but during the match, the finish was changed to Rey Fenix winning due to Jon Moxley’s condition.

It seems that decision may have come from Jon Moxley himself as the referee wasn’t aware of it, and that’s why he didn’t count to 3 the first time Jon Moxley was pinned and didn’t raise his shoulder, which made for a very awkward moment before Rey Fenix had to hit his finisher a second time and that’s when the referee figured it out and did count to 3.

The report notes that Jon Moxley isn’t expected to miss much ring time, and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer also referred to it as a “minor” concussion.

Given Rey Fenix wasn’t planned to win the AEW International Championship, plans going forward will have to be altered and it’ll be interesting to see how his reign plays out.
