Following his lengthy absence from AEW programming, a new report has revealed an update on MJF’s long awaited return.
At AEW Worlds End in December 2023, Samoa Joe defeated MJF to become the new AEW World Champion in the main event.
Since then, Maxwell Jacob Friedman has been out of action and absent from AEW television for the duration of 2024 so far.
Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update, noting that MJF could be nearing his return to the company very soon.
The report notes that discussions have taken place regarding MJF’s return in regards to how it will look, alterations in presentation and the like all broached.
There are several sources that believe that Friedman could be coming back imminently with most expecting the former AEW World Champion to return in his hometown of Long Island, New York for the upcoming Forbidden Door pay-per-view, if not sooner.
MJF has remained under AEW contract for quite some time after reportedly inking an extension with the company, which effectively replaced his previous deal that was set to expire on December 31, 2023.
As per his new deal, Friedman is now among the highest earners in All Elite Wrestling. However, he is currently out of action recovering from multiple injuries.
MJF hasn’t confirmed his contract status to much of anyone in the industry and many close to him, instead playing up that his deal was up at the end of 2023.
It remains to be seen when MJF will make his return to AEW television at the time of this writing.
