Backstage Update On Damian Priest Botch At WWE Money In The Bank

A new report has revealed a backstage update on the botch in the Damian Priest vs. Seth Rollins match at WWE Money In The Bank.

At WWE Money In The Bank, Damian Priest defeated Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre to retain the World Heavyweight Championship after interference from CM Punk.

Before McIntyre cashed in his Money In The Bank contract, Rollins hit a Falcon Arrow on Priest and pinned him where the referee didn’t count to three despite Priest not kicking out from the cover.

This led to many fans debating on social media about what exactly happened with this notable botch.

Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update, noting that there wasn’t any heat on Damian Priest or referee Rod Zapata following the botched kick out.

The report notes that Priest was supposed to kick out, based on chatter following the event, including Triple H addressing it on the post show.

Priest was said to have been fine in the immediate aftermath of the bout. As for Zapata, him counting the three count as it was would have resulted in the World Heavyweight Title switching to Seth Rollins.

Because of that, the Drew McIntyre cash-in would have been a singles bout, and the No DQ rules would not have applied to allow CM Punk to interfere legally.

Also, Rollins’ stipulation of not challenging for the title would have been invalid and WWE would have been put in a corner where Priest was no longer in The Judgment Day, per the rules in the match.

One WWE backstage source said:

“it was an unfortunate situation, but those don’t usually happen with Damian Priest, and he was probably more bothered about it than anyone. Considering how much he gives of himself, it would be silly for anyone to hold that against him. It’s just a ‘shit happens’ situation.”

Despite some fans believing that Drew McIntyre’s music hitting was also supposed to interrupt the count, no one confirmed or denied that.

However, one producer stated that wasn’t the vibe they got based on Triple H’s post show comments.

A new report has also revealed the backstage reaction to another major botch at WWE Money In The Bank,
