As promised it kicked off with MJF against Rush. What better match to have commercial free on an episode promising a run over? They start with swinging blows and I would expect nothing less. The Fargo Strut got MJF a slap to the chest that looked a little short to me. MJF ending the slap exchange with a jab to the eyes shows MJF is back and in fine form. A massive right hand by Rush seemingly knocks MJF out. That looked like it would have rivaled one of the Big Show's WMDs. Rush is also playing mind games. MJF adopted the Hammerlock DDT now that Idole is gone. Nice way for Rush to end the count after a spiked piledriver. He grabbed Referee Paul Turner's arm. Straightjacket piledriver by Rush gets him a two count. Superman punch by Rush has MJF rolling out of the ring. Rush brutalizes MJF on the outside. MJF looks in trouble once the two men get back into the ring. MJF blocks the Bull's Horns with a lariat out of nowhere. Heat seeker on Rush followed by a shear drop brain buster secures MJF a win.
I love how Will Ospreay just looke like some guy off the street. Swerve comes out with his normal swagger and attire. Will proclaims and it is true according to this biased writer that he is the best in the business today. Swerve sets it up for Ospreay to either go at it alone or to have interference against his will. This promo exchange isn't hitting with me. Surprisingly no physical violence.
All Star 8 man tag is no lie, This is going to be a hard match to keep up with the action The match started similar to the first one. I don't like ZSJ in orange and black. Briscoe and Fletcher take over the ring while not being the legal men. I don't think tha twill matter much in the match. So far it seems like a spotfest. Each man just gets a good hit in then another man downs them, Makes me wonder if either the match or face-to-face went long. ZSJ and Kyle O'Reilly had someone in a lock using the ropes at the same time nice visual. O'Reilly and ZSJ starte exchanging maneuvers in the ring and it is awesome. I lvoe a good technical bout like they are putting on in the ring. Zac Saber Jr and Orange Cassidy are now pairing off until Konosuke tagged in. I seen Kyle say something to ZSJ. I wonder what that was? Dante agaisnt ZSJ is hte next paring. Nice to see opposing styles. Takeshita is in quickly. The high octane nature of the match has slowed down. There is now frequent tags by the Don Callis family and Roderick Strong. That same team starts to do the infinite clotheslines like Rocky Romero does with his teams in NJPW. Mark Briscoe is tagged in and starts to take down all of his opponents. Froggybow followed by a knee drop by O'Reilly, a splash by Dante Martin, and an Elbow drop by Orange Cassidy who would pin for a two count. Briscoe would slap ZSj and taunt him before ZSJ broke his hold on Orange Cassidy. Each man of both teams then start to get a move in before getting taken out. The usual formula for an 8 man tag. Orange would pin Roderick Strong for the victory.
Comfortable Colorful Clothing. Nice description by Justin Roberts on what Matthew and Nicholas Jackson are wearing. No Daddy Ass and worse no rap to the ring. as Kazuchika Okada "cut" the mic. The Buck start the match before the bell. However, the Acclaimed take advantage. The Acclaimed are looking strong in this match. A Scissor Me Timber early in the match on Matthew Jackson. Drop kick by Matthew Jackson to Anthony Bowen's wrapped leg as he was getting whipped into the corner was nice. I do not recall seeing anything like it before. This turns the tide in favor of the Bucks. Bowens fights back but slows himself down with a fame asser on Nicholas Jackson. EVP Trigger blocked by Bowens. The Young Bucks pump up thier shoes before giving Bowens a double superkick. After looking strong early on the Acclaimed look like they can be put away at any time. Especially after a low blow by Matthew Jackson. That then got Bowens an EVP Trigger saved from the loss by Max Caster. Sliced Bread Powerbomb combo onto Bowens by the Buck. Bowens kicks out. Rick Knox almost hit with the title whcih then give Nicholas the chance to accidently hit is brother with the other granting the Acclaimed the win. This was a nice deviation from the usual Eliminator Matches. People (Kevin Nash among others) say the money is in the baby face chasing the title but I really want the Acclaimed to win.
Premier Athletes against Joe, Hook, and Shibata does not seem like a good use of TV time for me.
Mariah May starts with stating her love for both ladies. Mena told her to shut up. Mena tell Toni Storm that she has gotten soft and weak. Slapping the tits off Mena and telling her that the buffet of Toni Storm are open is a hilarious line. Then the chin up, tits out, and watch out for the shoe ends the talking for Toni. Shirakawa wants Mariah to choose between the two. Enter Saraya. with Anna Jay to attack all of those in the ring. Storm saves Mariah from the table. Storm then goes into it missing a hip attack. Mena and Mariah May end the segment on the top of the ramp.
The Female Owen Hart Tournament kicks off with two powerful women. This is the first of many quality matches for this years tournament. Kris and Nyla are even on power. Kris Statlander even stepped on Nyla's foot to get an advantage. This does not work as Nyla starts a beatdown. Kris Statlander does not let that stay the case for long as she would send Nyla to the outside. Nyla hits a massive cannonball for a near fall. Statlander gets out of the Beast Bomb a little messy but still escapes and is able to execute an ax kick. WOW, a tombstone on Nyla advances Kris Statlander to the second round.
Rhett Titus aka Romantic Touch against Garcia was not on the list above. This is a nice quick match. After the match Gates of Cage beat down Garcia until MJF comes out for the save. The numbers game is too much for MJF. Our man the Aerial Assassin comes out to run off Gates of Cage. Holy Shit as the crowd is chanting.
PAC goes for a drop kick off the top rope within the first 10 seconds of the match. Claudio looks to be favoring his hip. Is this a sell or a legit issue? The high flyer PAC took a flight he did not like when Claudio threw him in the air for an uppercut on the outside of the ring. The double stomps gets Claudio Castagnoli a two count. Tornado DDT on the outside by PAC. PAC rolls thru a Black Arrow. Claudio delivers a devastating uppercut for a two count. Giant Swing by Claudio. Either the hip was a sell or the adrenaline is pumping for Claudio to do that. Another near fall on PAC. Ricola Bomb countered into a Brutalizer. Claudio easily moves PAC to the center of the ring when he puts a Sharpshooter on him. Claudio prevents the rope break by applying a cross face. Great smooth action. A series of pin reversals allows PAC to get the win. That was surprising to me.
