NWA women’s invitational tournament announced
The NWA and Mickie James seem to be well on the way to creating more opportunities for women within wrestling.
While attending an NWA press conference today, Mickie James announced that the National Wrestling Alliance would be hosting their first ever Women's Invitational Tournament.
James said "For the first time ever, we are going to hold the NWA Women’s Invitational, where we will find the top women in the industry, the up-and-coming, the rising talent that we see as the future prospects of the women in the industry,"
She went on to say that the tournament itself will be held On the NWA's anniversary weekend from August 28th all the way to August 31st in St. Louis. After this initial announcement she went on to say that the tournament will be held every year on the anniversary of the National Wrestling Alliance.
James also revealed that St. Louis’ own Tootie Lynn will be one of the first participants in the tournament. The NWA Women’s Invitational Cup winner will go on to face the NWA World Women’s Champion at NWA 73 to contend for the NWA World Women’s Championship, currently held by Kamille.
During the NWA's anniversary weekend there will be four consecutive nights of wrestling events in St. Louis, starting with NWA Empowerrr on August 28th. The NWA 73rd Anniversary show will take place the next night on August 29th, followed by two nights of television tapings on August 30th and 31st.
