New Documentary About Stone Cold Steve Austin Being Produced

A new documentary is to be aired and featured on legendary WWE superstar Stone Cold Steve Austin, from the producers of The Last Dance.

The documentary series was a major success for both Netflix and ESPN earlier this year. The show won an Emmy Award for outstanding documentary by reliving the final years of Michael Jordan's career with the Chicago Bulls during their hunt for their 6th NBA championship in the 97-98 season.

The producers are turning their attentions to one of the biggest names in professional wrestling, the toughest SOB in WWE Stone Cold Steve Austin, as reported by Lillian Garcia. In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, she stated she was approached by WWE about the upcoming project and was informed that the producers of The last Dance wanted her to be a part of the Documentary.

Here's what Garcia had to say:

"WWE reached out to me first," Garcia said. "They were like, 'Hey, somebody from The Last Dance is going to reach out to you, they want you involved in the documentary.' I was like, 'Wait, what?' So I end up getting reached out by them, and it was funny because my husband and I were currently watching the documentary as this message was happening. So when Jake [Jacob Rogal] reached out to me I'm like, 'Jake, I'm literally watching your documentary right now. This is amazing.' [I] come to find out they want to do a documentary for 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and it's coming out next year. And he gave me the biggest compliment, he said, 'Your interview with Steve that you did on Chasing Glory was what made us realize that we wanted to do a different documentary,' because he's had a few already."

In an interview with Austin in 2018 on her podcast 'Chasing Glory', Austin had told her he was a shy child before finding major success as a professional wrestler.

She confirmed that the filming has already been completed and is due to be released in 2021.

Although Garcia mentioned one of the producers of The Last Dance directly, she didn't mention which Executive Producer was involved or if series creator Jason Hehir would be directing again.

It's unclear if this is in connection to WWE Studios. In April of last year, it was announced that the Network and WWE had teamed up to make a five part docuseries as part of its biography series. Austin will be the focus of one episode along with the Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels, Booker T, Rowdy Roddy Piper and the Macho Man, Randy Savage.
