MLW Wrestler Richard Holliday is being treated for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Get all the details below. We wish you well in this fight against cancer Richard Holliday.
Richard Holliday has conducted an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. During the interview Richard Holliday spoke candidly about how he has been solidly focussed on his treatment for this hideous disease. Holliday noted in the interview that his journey through this illness has been a “Whirlwind” recalling how he wasn’t feeling right during the time of his last match, which set off alarm bells that something was not right with him.
“When I wrestled Hammer in June, I was taking Dayquil to try to get through every day,” Holliday said. “I kept pushing and pushing, but I just felt off. At that point, I had just got home from California. The whole time I was there, I was freezing. I was pale white when I left after a month. I was taking iron pills to try to counter that, but my levels kept dropping,” Holliday says. “They checked if I had internal bleeding, which I didn’t, and then they ran a litany of tests and a scan of my body for a possible case of lymphoma in September. Those tests confirmed it was Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.”
The former Dynasty member continued and spoke about the day he was informed that he had cancer, emphasizing that he had to change his mindset and focus on the fight ahead with a positive frame of mind.
“It was earth-shattering, devastating,” Holliday said. “But I knew right then I needed to change my mindset. The mind powers the body, so I needed to stay positive. I was reassured by my doctor that I could beat this, and I believe I am going to beat this.”
During the interview, Justin Barrasso noted that Holliday asked to immediately begin Chemotherapy to combat this disease. Holliday also went on to divulge that he maintained an aggressive mindset even after the discovery that his Lymphoma was at Stage 4.
“My plan is not to lose to Lymphoma; my plan is to inspire people,” said Holliday. “I’m going to come out of this stronger, and I’m going to let people know they can beat it, too. For a little while at first, I was so busy with treatments, I felt so removed from wrestling. It was even tough to watch, knowing it was ripped away from me. Now I can’t stop thinking about my return. Outside of my family, wrestling is the most important thing in my life. I was so upset it was taken from me. Now I’m so excited for the future.”
The former Dynasty member and former MLW World Tag Team Champion made it very clear that the driving force for him to get through this, is his return to wrestling, but Holliday he knows that this fight will take time.
“I think about my return every single day,” Holliday said. “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t. But this is a process. I know there are more steps after chemotherapy. Mentally, right now, I am ready. Physically, I know it’s going to take some time. But I will be back.”
At this time, Holliday is halfway through his 12 rounds of chemotherapy, and in true fighting spirit he is remaining positive and determined to beat this deadly disease.
“This process works as long as you stay positive,” Holliday said. “And I’m going to beat it.”
Holliday has even taken to Twitter, vowing to beat this disease.
