Back in 2017, following a match with Okada at Sakura Genesis, Shibata suffered a subdural hematoma. After undergoing emergency surgery, it was believed that he'd never be able to wrestle again.

However, this seems to not be the case. During the October 21st event of G1 Climax 31, Shibata took part in a match against Zack Sabre Jr, returning to the ring for the first time since 2017. He has since made it known that this brief match made him want to return to the ring full time, even more.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has stated that Shibata is not yet medically cleared to wrestle and that his match against Sabre Jr was a very limited match in terms of timing and physical contact.

We will keep you updated as more news becomes available.

In the meantime, if you're excited for Shibata's potential return, or have any other thoughts, we'd love to hear them!
