Is Nikki a superhero or have WWE cross’ed a line
Is the superhero gimmick effective or a waste of time ......
Hey guys it’s Kyle here, and it’s time for me to write my first ever opinion piece! Should make a change from writing the news!
Let’s talk about Nikki A.S.H shall we...?
Now due to the polarising response that Nikki A.S.H Has had over the past couple of weeks, I do feel that, not only have fans like myself found it cheesy and strange that Nikki has had this metamorphosis let’s say into some kind of a superhero, but it seems that we’re not the only ones as WWE don’t seem to have that much confidence in her either according to news reports.
I don’t really understand why WWE creative have gone in this direction, or shall we just say Vince McMahon, because it does seem like an idea that he has come up with and no one else, his mind seems to be stuck in the 90s and not even in this decade!
I mean come on let’s be honest with ourselves we’ve gone past the days where you needed wrestlers to dress up as superheroes such as the hurricane and just wearing stupid outfits like the gobbledygooker for instance. Yes, we do like them now and then but only in small doses and the fact is that WWE needs to realise that times have changed, and we don’t need this cheesy bullshit anymore….
Even if you look at her attire, I get horrible flashbacks from the time when we had that monstrosity of a butterfly divas title, now that is a memory I would like wiped from my brain thank you very much. I mean when Nikki won the women's title, I had a horrible vision of them bringing the butterfly back (I know, I shouldn't give WWE any ideas should I?).
With this metamorphosis the WWE Universe has had no shame or filter in expressing their dislike for this new version of Cross when they attended live house shows, to test the theory of a triple threat match between herself, Rhea Ripley, and Charlotte Flair where she got heavily booed by fans. The issue with this is that the universe as a whole cannot take the superhero character seriously and this is the main reason why WWE has doubts about the future of this gimmick and, quite frankly, I’m inclined to agree with them.
In my humble opinion, I would prefer to have Nikki Cross as her normal insane self because I don’t know whether there is any other scope for Nikki's" almost a superhero character", not only that but going from someone you would consider a crazy badass to a happy-clappy superhero is just not believable, the change just doesn't make sense.
One of our fans Shaun Paul Brooks said;
“Sadly, with the reaction the crowd are giving her I feel WWE creative will now give the title back to Charlotte since she's having yet another unearned shot at it. Best thing they can do if Nikki is going to be buried like that because of a live crowd reaction give her a super villain v superhero showdown with Bliss and have Bliss convert her into the dark Nikki Cross Sanity persona again and really bring the darkness out”.
There’s quite a lot to unpack in this comment but here we go…
Due to the negative effect that she has been given I could see the title changing hands at Summerslam, but I hope to God it’s not going to be Charlotte Flair. Although she is an amazing talent, I’m sick and tired of seeing the title around Charlotte’s waist when there are plenty more talented female superstars who could probably benefit from the push. I also agree that Charlotte has got another title shot that she hasn’t really earnt. WWE needs to realise that they have a lot of talent at their disposal who could benefit from a match like this at Summerslam. Let’s face it, Charlotte is so well-established that she doesn’t really need this nor another push.
As there have been so many releases of late, things could change quite dramatically, the fact that Ric Flair is no longer contracted to WWE could potentially affect Charlotte’s status, and also with Bray Wyatt no longer being signed to WWE that could also affect Alexa Bliss with her gimmick which is quite an interesting take. And again, Shaun made another very good point; Although I don’t think there’s much scope for Nikki as a superhero, it could go one of two ways:
With Bray Wyatt released from WWE, Nikki as a superhero could be used to fight the evil out of Alexa Bliss and bring her best friend back.
More to Shaun's point, Alexa could be used to bring the darkness out of Nikki and bring her back to her usual insane self. Personally, I’m hoping for the latter….
Now although I know I’ve spent most of this article ripping the superhero gimmick to shreds because I’m no longer in the 90s, I do also understand that there are some people who might like the gimmick but, in all honesty, I don’t think there are many unless you’re a 10-year-old.
I do understand why this gimmick exists, especially with the year that everybody has had due to COVID-19 and it’s a way of putting a positive spin on things in order to bring joy to many people.
Is this gimmick really cheesy? Yes.
Do I think that this gimmick is going to last? I highly doubt it, and quite frankly, I don’t think Nikki actually had much of a say in the style nor the presentation of the gimmick whatsoever.
This is just my opinion, but I prefer cheesy gimmicks like this to disappear and go back to the '90s, there is no need for them anymore. I might sound a bit like a grumpy shit but that’s how I feel.
Do you agree with me or not? Why don't you let me know down in the comments below?
