This week's episode of DYNAMITE airs live from live from Hertz Arena in Estero, Florida
We start this week's episode of DYNAMITE with Chris Jericho addressing Eddie Kingston after REVOLUTION.
Jericho: “ARE YOU READY FOR DYNAMITE!!!??? Last Sunday at REVOLUTION was literally one of the greatest nights of my career. And even though my neck is still stiff and sore, I even though lost to Eddie Kingston by tapping out to the stretch plum, it was still one of the greatest matches of my career, and maybe the best match I've had in AEW period.
And I want to thank Eddie for that, because he awakened something in me that I didn’t think was still there. And after he beat me, I didn’t live up to my word and my word is everything. I refused to shake his hand. I was frustrated. I want to shake his hand and I need to make it up to Eddie Kingston. He beat me, he deserves my respect and he’s got my respect, and I tonight want to pay my debt to Eddie Kingston. I want to apologize to him face-to-face so if you’re back there, please come out Eddie so I can shake your hand.”
Eddie Kingston comes out to the ring
Kingston: “Look, Chris, we’re gonna get real deep, folks. The Friday night before the biggest night of my career, I didn’t want to show up. I wanted to go out and drink, I wanted to forget my problems again because Chris you got in my mind. I’ve lost to Punk, Mox, Miro, I’ve always lost the big one. You were right, I was afraid.
You know what gave me the courage? When I had four separate people come up to me at the Fan Fest who said they didn’t end themselves because they read my piece in the Player’s Tribune, did you really think I was going to miss that PPV for them? After the match, I cried in my hotel room because I wanted to make those people proud. Not me, not you, them. All I can say is, for those people at the Fan Fest, I hope I did you proud.
Now we go to the other issue. See Chris that handshake wasn’t for me. I didn’t need that handshake, I needed to win the match. That handshake was for you. What are you missing inside yourself that made you not shake my hand? That doesn’t sound like an Eddie Kingston problem, that sounds like a Chris Jericho problem. I dragged out the man I looked up too. The man that was in japan, was in the ring with the great Eddie Guerrero, with the great Dean Malenko. That’s who I respected. You know what Chris, no matter what anyone says in the back and on Twitter, you proved everyone wrong because you are still number one. But is that enough to fill the hole in your chest? That’s a question you gotta answer, partner.
Jericho: “Eddie, everything you said is right. And I've been obsessing over this for the past 2 nights. I couldn’t sleep. I'm going to ask you, I'm going to tell you, Eddie Kingston, I respect you, you have my undying respect, I thank you for giving me one of the best matches of my career and I’d be honoured if you please forgot about all that other stuff and shook my hand.”
Kingston accepted Jericho’s handshake, but 2point0 and Danial Garcia came out to the ring and attacked Kingstone and Jericho. Santana and Ortiz run down to the ring to even up the odds. Ortiz passes Jericho his baseball bat. Santana is holding up Garcia, but Jericho swung the bat at Santana instead and then Ortiz! Jake Hager runs out looking conflicted, but attacked Ortiz!
Jericho, Garcia, Hager, and 2point0 all attacked Eddie Kingston after before Jericho hits Kingston in the head with the handle of the baseball bat. 2point0 grab a table and set it up at ringside, and Hager lifted up Kingston and powerbombed him off the ring apron and through the table
“This is the Jericho Appreciation Society. And that’s entertainment!” Jericho said laughing, as his new faction gave the camera the middle finger together!
I loved this. Absolutely loved this. I've been wanting to see heel Jericho again for ages as I do think it's his best work, and I did wonder where this storyline was going. Hopefully we can see another match between Kingston and Jericho in the near future.
Title match already??
First match of the night, and we have Dante Martin Vs Adam Page for the AEW World Championship. I'm surprised to see this match so early, and surprised to see it fresh off REVOLUTION. Now, this is going to be the first time I have thought this about a world title match for AEW, but honestly, I found this match, a bit stale. I'm not saying it wasn’t a good match, but I just think so fresh after REVOLUTION and the performance put on then, this match just fell flat. Nothing much happened, and honestly for a change I found this match skip-worthy. So just a quick round up, I think.
The match begins with a handshake. Both men quickly locked up and Page takes down Dante with a shoulder tackle, but Dante comes back with a dropkick to Page.
Dante hits a springboard press off the ropes but Page catches him and hit a fallaway slam on Dante. Page launches himself over the top rope with a body press to Dante on the arena floor.
Dante smashed into Page with a moonsault to the outside. Dante jumps off the top rope but Page counters with a sit down powerbomb.
After a nice exchange of highflying moves and counters, Page hit Dante with the Buckshot Lariat for the victory.
After the match, Tony Schiavone joined Adam Page in the ring.
Page: “Dante, get your ass back in here real quick. Last year you got put in a tough position. Your brother got hurt and you had to enter into singles competition. And you managed to make it all the way to a world championship match. And should you make it back here, I’d love to do it again.”
Adam Cole (BAY BAY!) comes out and interrupts the interview.
Cole: “oh will you shut your damn mouth. look at you, you're on top of the world, you're untouchable. But at REVOLUTION I proved You’re not untouchable. At REVOLUTION we went to a war and you threw everything you had at me. You got a fluke victory. Anybody can get lucky once, and the next time we fight each other, you won’t get lucky again.
Next week on DYNAMITE I’m challenging you to a six-man tag team match. You can choose any two goons you want. As far as my partners, I have very specific young men in mind, two guys of my own who know you better than you know yourself and they’re my friends, not yours. I am going to make your life an absolute living hell.
Your days as AEW World Champion are numbered. I will not stop until I get what I want. I will not stop until I get what I deserve. I will not stop until I hear the words ‘And new AEW World Champion Adam Cole BayBay!’
ITS ABOUT TIME
Next match of the night, we have the first-time teaming together of Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson Vs The Workhorsemen. Now, this match was nothing to write home about. It was 2 of the best in the world vs a couple of Indy guys making their debut for AEW. This was clearly just to cement Moxley and Danielson as a team. Needless to say, no review is needed for this match, Moxley and Danielson get the victory after Danielson made Drake tap out with the Le Bell Lock.
Its after the match where you need to watch. William Regal cuts an emotional promo which is well worth the watch if you can find it to watch. Tony Schiavone joins them in the ring, and im going to paraphrase the promo or id be here forever guys;
Tony Schiavone: “No doubt on Sunday night it was a shocker, but William Regal is here in AEW and had brought these two men together. I have worked with this man for many years, it is great to see you and be back beside you, your lordship”
William Regal: “Mr Schiavone, I thought we’d never do this again. it’s been 29 years since we stepped in the ring together. My time is flying by. I’m 53 years old now. I’ve lived more than a hard life. With battles with self and battles in the ring. Too many empty bottles and a few broken hearts. What I’m out here to do with these incredible gentlemen here, well, it’s the first time that I actually get to thank you, Tony, on camera, because 29 years ago when I got here, you were someone that really helped me out. But enough with being a nice guy.
Time is ticking by, and obviously I'm no longer needed in my old job. and for two months I completely totally checked out of this industry. And then somebody told me that my friend Bryan Danielson mentioned me on AEW DYNAMITE. And then I had to go and watch and then I found out that my great friend here of 21 years, Bryan Danielson, was going to go and fight Jon Moxley.
Many of you might only know me because Bryan Danielson always mentioned my name wherever he was, whether it was in Ring of Honor or here. And the first thing I’ll do is sit down and make a better wrestler if someone is willing to put the work in. Bryan Danielson is the perfect wrestler. You became everything that I could never be, because you don’t have the problems that I have.
Then 11 years ago I met you, Jon Moxley. And for a whole year, the psychological and physical problems that we put upon each other, would make the devil cry. And then I heard you two were going to knock the stuffing out of each other, I thought it was time to come along. And then I thought, what better than to have these two perfect wrestlers to teach the next generation. So just a warning to every person that steps in the ring with them. You will not like the outcome. You’ll either step up or you’ll get stepped on.”
This was such an emotional promo from Regal here and you could see him filling up with tears at some points when he was talking to Tony. Go and watch it. Honestly, this typing just doesn’t do it justice.
Next, we have another, unfortunatley boring match for me personally and another skip worthy match, which we don’t seem to have many of in AEW, but this weeks episode seems to have a few moments. We have PAC vs. Wheeler Yuta in what was dubbed a filler match because the world title match didn’t last as long as expected.
As soon as the match starts it goes to an ad break straight away. We come back from the break and we see Yuta hit PAC with a dropkick following with with a release German suplex. PAC reversed Yuta’s whip into the corner, but Yuta jumped off the top rope with a high crossbody. PAC comes back with a roundhouse kick. PAC picks up Yuta with a deadlift and then hit him with a German suplexed. PAC hit Yuta with an avalanche brain buster and locked in the brutaliser making Yuta tap out giving PAC the victory by submission.
I think it was clear this was a filler match. It had the potential to be a really good match, I just feel like it need more time and genuinely seemed like it was an afterthought match.
We go backstage for a couple of promos now. Firstly its Adam Cole backstage with The Young Bucks and ReDRagon, and they’re arguing. Adam Cole lets the world know that ReDRagon will be his tag team partners next week, and not the Bucks. I still feel like it just going towards a theory I have going forward, but this will be revealed soon if I am correct.
Next we see FTR being interviewed by Alex Marvez. Tully Blanchard is saying that FTR are in AEW to wind championships, whilst Dash says he is doing it for family. Cash steps in, grabs Tully and agrees with Dash that it about family, then fires Tully Blanchard!
AHFO BOARD MEETING TIME!
Back into the ring, its time for a board meeting for the AHFO.
Matt: “I came out here tonight to start fresh, to make amends with the AHFO. You Andrade, you’re here because you want to fire me from the company I started here in AEW.”
Andrade: “Amigo, take it easy. What happened to you?”
Matt: “i apologise for treating you poorly, and apologise to everyone else. It seems like every time I put on a suit I transform into an asshole, you know what that’s about”
Matt and Andrade decide to take a vote on if Matt should be removed from the AHFO. Andrade gives Hardy the thumbs down to vote Hardy out. Jose gives the thumbs down. Private Party give the thumbs up, but when Hardy turned his back, Private Party turned their thumbs down.
Andrade: “In this business, you always need someone to watch your back”
Matt turned back around to private party and saw they had their thumbs down to vote him out, and Andrade attacked Matt from behind. The rest of the AHFO joined in on the assault to Matt and they all started to beat him down. Darby Allin and Sting some running down to the ring to help Matt and try to even up the odds, but the numbers game soon caught up with them and they got overwhelmed aswell.
All of a sudden, some familiar music hits, its Jeff Hardy! Jeff Hardy is All Elite! He has come to his brothers aid! We all knew it was coming but didn’t expect it tonight.
Jeff runs down to the ring and between Jeff, Matt, Darby and Sting the wiped out the AFO! Matt the twist of fate on the Blade and Jeff followed up with the Swanton Bomb and the brothers hugged each other in an emotional embrace!
This was a perfect was to introduce Jeff to AEW in my opinion. I wondered how they were going to do it with the whole AHFO thing going on, but this was perfect. And the embrace between Matt and Jeff at the end of the segment you can clearly tell the emotion between Matt and Jeff and how happy they are to be back on TV together reunited.
Next up, we are back in the ring after an ad break with Tony Schiavone in the ring with the winner of the face of the revolution ladder match, Wardlow.
Tony: “Alright Wardlow, with you grabbing the brass ring on Sunday you have earned your TNT title shot coming up. But I think we were all very excited to see what happened with MJF and the dynamite diamond ring, your you're still under contract with MJF?”
Wardlow: “I spent too much of my life helping someone with their own dreams, whilst receiving nothing but disrespect and the demand for more. I thought my opportunity with Max was my chance to finally free the wild animal from the circus. Little did I know I was walking out of one cage and walking into another as I found myself helping Max fulfil his dreams. I knew Max wasn’t a good person when I signed up for the job, so You will all have to forgive me for associating with such trash.
But to be honest with you guys, I grew up very poor. At a very young age I knew I wanted to be a professional wrestler because I fell in love with it but I knew it’d be my opportunity to provide my mother and my future family a better life. Max was my way of getting my foot in the door, and yes here I am, yes Max paid me a lot of money, yes Max, you changed my life, and for that I thank you.
However, it does not give you right to disrespect them, threaten my family or put your hands on me. Max, last week when you slapped me, you decided your own fate. And yes, I am still under contract to Max, but I no longer give a damn. And at REVOLUTION, it was my way of showing I am no longer watching Max’s back, I am no longer his bodyguard, I am no longer a member of the Pinnacle, I am finally free.
Max, I hope you’re as intelligent as you claim to be and release me from this B.S. contract. And in return I will wash my hands of you. I would love to powerbomb Max until he can't move, but I refuse to waste another three years of my life. Karma will be my revenge. The only thing I'm worried about is winning the TNT title. I am not stopping at the TNT Title. After years of giving, it is time I take, and I want it all. As of right now, I’m letting everyone know that All Elite Wrestling is Wardlow’s World!”
Powerful words from Wardlow here. Hes grown on me so much over the past few months and I hope he goes on to get the singles run he deserves. I'm not 100% sure if Hes ready for a world title run any time soon, but id love to see him become TNT champion for a long time.
DO THEY ‘ACCLAIM’ TO BE THE BEST?
Next match of the night, we have a Tag title match between the champions Jurassic Express and The Acclaimed. They match gets underway and The Acclaimed double team Jungle Boy, but Jungle Boy manages to break free and counter the assault and get a tag to Luchasaurus. Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy start working over Max Caster, but me comes back by dropping Jungle Boy on the apron with a clothesline and then gets dropped by Bownes on the outside as we go to an ad break. All during the break, The Acclaimed are just working over Jungle Boy.
Coming back from the break, we see Jungle Boy get the tag to Luchasaurus and see him just take down both members of The Acclaimed. He goes for a double chokeslam on them, but the roll out of the ring to avoid it, but they get hit by Jungle Boy as he goes diving over the top rope onto them. Back in the ring, Luchasaurus hits Caster with a standing moonsault into a cover but Bowens broke up the pin attempt. Jurassic Express go for the Doomsday device, but after some interference by Bowens, The Acclaimed are back in charge of the match.
The Acclaimed start using tandem offense on Jungle Boy, and Caster hits the Mic Drop into a cover, but Luchasaurus break up the pin attempt. Bowens distracts the ref and Caster goes to hit Jungle Boy with the steel chain but Christian Cage grabs him and pulled him out back out of the ring. Jurassic Express hit the Doomsday Device on Bowens and get the pinfall victory.
This was a very good match, but far too short for me. I don’t like the acclaimed, but there is no arguing they can go when they're in the ring.
Next match we have a match to decide the #1 contender for the Womens World title between Leyla Hirsch and Thunder Rosa. This was a short match, and unfortunately another one that isn't really worth reviewing properly. It was an ok match, but too short and nothing really happened to highlight, was just....flat. Thunder Rosa gets the victory Via Pinfall and goes on to face Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D next week in a steel cage match.
ITS THE MAIIINNN EVENT NOW
Main even time now, and we have Sammy Guevara Vs Scorpio Sky for the TNT Championship. The match gets underway, and Sammy and Scorpio traded strikes and chops but Scorpio comes out on top. Sammy rallies back with a corkscrew dropkick. The pair brawl with each other outside the ring and Sammy throws Sky into the steel barricade. Sammy pulls out a table from under the ring and set it up. Sammy hits Sky with a thrust kick and then placed him on the table. Sammy climbs to the top turnbuckle and attempt a 630 senton but Sky moves out the way and Sammy crashed through the table. Tay Conti runs down to the ring to check on Sammy, as we go to an ad break. Sammy is pointing to his ribs, and Tay Conti and Dr. Sampson helped Sammy to his feet. They want to take him to the back but Sammy pushes them away and gets back in the ring.
As we come back from the ad break, Sammy spits at Sky. Sky hits a series of big knee shots to Sammy’s ribs then throws Sammy through the ropes. Back in the ring, Sky hit Sammy with a backbreaker. Sammy fights his way up to a vertical position and hits Sky with a big forearm. Sammy jumped off the ropes with a double springboard into the cutter and goes for the pin, but Sky kicks out at 2.
Sky goes for the TKO but counters it and hit Sky with the GTH, but Sky rolls beneath the ropes. Sammy goes for the shooting star press but Sky lifts his knees up. Dan Lambert jumps up on the ring to distract the ref, then Ethan Page jumped up on the ring apron but Tay Conti pulls him down. Paige VanZant speared Tay Conti outside the ring taking her out! Off of this distraction, Sky hits Sammy with the TKO and pinned him to become the new TNT Champion!
This was a good match to end the show on, but I don’t think it was match of the night. But it was a good way to end the show and how to make Sammy drop the TNT title.
After the match, Scorpio Sky smashes the TNT championship title belt into Sammy’s head. Paige rolls Tay Conti into the ring and connects with a high kick to Tay’s head, knocking Tay out and onto Sammy Guevara. Paige VanZant pulled out her AEW contract. Paige slaps the papers on the backside of Tay and signed her AEW contract! Paige Vanzant is ALL ELITE!
That’s all she wrote this week folks. And I have to say, apart from a couple of good matches and some decent promos, this episode was abit flat. I think it may be because its fresh off REVOLUTION and that was so good, but I don’t know. All I know, is that is makes a change for me to say and episode of DYNAMITE has been subpar.
But on that note, stay safe, stay elite, and don’t get released! (Editor's Note: We rehired Adam during this article, but have decided that was a bad call. Adam has been released, again)
Catch you next week guys (EN: You won't.)
