Suprising WWE star who was supposed to win the Universal title in 2020
Sportskeeda's Tom Colohue is reporting that a suprising WWE superstar was supposed to have a run as WWE Universal Champion.
King Corbin was slated for a run with the strap which would have been his first run as a major champion. Colohue reports that Roman Reigns was to drop the belt to Corbin after taking it from 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36, leading to Otis cashing in the Money in the Bank briefcase and defeating Corbin for the title before May 2021.
While talking about the Universal Championship plans a few months ago, Colohue stated that we would see two new faces in the main event scene, each winning the title for the first time. Colohue said:
“The idea was that they could make a new star. But of course there have been many changes since. It was supposed to be The Fiend vs Roman Reigns at WrestleMania with Roman winning the Championship. That would evolve into a Championship match for King Corbin.
“King Corbin would be the man whom Otis would claim the briefcase on. Otis would be cashing in on King Corbin after he won his first Championship”
As you know, Roman Reigns took time off to protect his own health during the pandemic, having beaten leukemia not that long ago.
With Reigns back on TV and the title back on the Fiend, it isn't outside the realm of reality for this to still happen, but only time will tell.
How do you feel about this, would you like to see either King Corbin or Otis as WWE Universal Champion? Let us know in the comments below.
