10 realistic surprise entrants we could see in this year's Royal Rumble matches!

With the Royal Rumble being a matter of hours away, JP is here to share 10 superstars that might be a surprise entrant in this year's Royal Rumble matches!

1. Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey has been out of action since Wrestlemania 35, in which she was part of the main event against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. She injured her hand in this and this was the last time she was seen on our screens. She took a significant break to start a family and gave birth in September 2021.

Since leaving, Rousey has fired multiple shots at the company, which many people have deemed as her building heat for when she eventually returns. She has a ready made feud as well, as she has never had the heavily requested 1v1 match against Becky Lynch, and with the latter being Raw women's champion, a build to a Wrestlemania match seems extremely likely. The only issue with this return is if her body is fit to return, as returning 4/5 months after giving birth is a very short recovery time period for her body. We will have to wait and see, but if she does return, I expect her to win the whole thing.

2. Bray Wyatt

Bray Wyatt

Similarly to Braun Strowman, the release of Bray Wyatt came as a major shock to everyone. But like his former Wyatt Family partner Braun, he has also yet to make an apperance at any other promotion. He has been working hard on a horror movie which has restricted his time to do anything wrestling related, which may have provided the break he needed.

Wyatt is another WWE made star, as he is unlikely to be a success in many, if any, other promotions. After a short break, he may be ready to return to the ring, and if WWE and himself agree, a return to the company perminantly. He is a creative genius, which is seen through his character work as the fiend and eater of worlds gimmicks. There is potential for a return as he always thinks of a fresh and exciting gimmick to reignite WWE's interest in him.

3. Paige

Paige

it's been a long time since we've seen Paige in action as she was forced to retire from in-ring competition due to a neck injury. She has been out since Demeber 2017 and a return would be a feel-good moment for all fans, similar to that of Edge's 2020 return.

Since retiring, Paige has been on great terms with WWE, being a commentator and GM at certain points after her retirement. It has been rumoured that she has been given the all clear to compete, and she has been teasing a return for a long time now, with numerous back and forths on Twitter, Becky Lynch to name one example. She seems to have a few feuds already in the making, and a return like this is what the Royal Rumble is all about.

4. John Cena

John Cena

John Cena is one of those names that people always have a feeling will be in the Royal Rumble. It feels weird without the CM Punk rumours after 7 years of them at every rumble, so we need to fill the void somehow.

Big match John is immensely Loyal to the WWE, and you know if his schedule is free on Royal Rumble weekend, he is likely to take the oppotunity to be in the match. This could furthermore set up a feud between himself and someone who eliminates him in the rumble for Wrestlemania, as he is heavily rumoured to have a match at the showcase of the immortals.

5. Bayley

Bayley

One big return we could see at the Royal Rumble is Bayley. She has been away with an ACL injury that has seen her out since June 2021. Her return however seems 'imminent' and it is a possibility she could be cleared in time for the Royal Rumble.

She will be gunning to get her title back after her 380 day reign that was ended by Sasha Banks. To add to this, Banks is also in the rumble match, so a Bayley appearance to eliminate Banks as revenge is a strong possibility, if she has been medically cleared beforehand.

6. Braun Strowman

Braun Strowman

Since being released from WWE in June 2021, Adam Scherr (Braun Strowman) has made very few appearances in other promotions and hasn't signed a deal with any of them. He appeared at ROH Final Battle, but otherwise hasn't done anything major.

This could all be gearing up to a return for Strowman at the Rumble and perhaps a return to WWE for good. He's perfect for the company and the company is perfect for him, and I for one can't picture him working anywhere else.

7. Deonna Purrazzo

Deonna Purrazzo

Another Impact superstar now, with one of the highest rated women's superstars in the world. Her ongoing feud with Mickie James could allow for her to enter the Rumble to continue that feud, with her eliminating James or vice-versa.

The main concern is if Deonna even wants to wrestle for the company she only managed one win in before leaving to bigger and better things. It is all dependant on whether she left on good terms. If that's the case, there is nothing stopping this from happening.

8. Tommaso Ciampa

Tommaso Ciampa

Tommaso Ciampa is a superstar who has voiced his concerns numerous times about how he is sceptical about an appearance on a main show event. He is NXT through and through, but following the major changes of the former black and gold brand, now seems as good of a time as ever for him to make an apperance.

He is a superstar that has been struggling since the NXT 2.0 era began, and a one off appearance seems likely, even if it doesn't result in a permanent move away from NXT.

9. Trish Stratus

Trish Stratus

Trish Stratus is a WWE Hall of Famer, and helped revolutionise women's wrestling to the point it's at today. She participated in the 2018 women's Royal Rumble, so it is likely we will see her again in this year's installment.

This entry seems logical, as a feud between Lita and Charlotte is being teased, which Trish can easily help set up as her and Lita have a long history. If Charlotte was to eliminate Trish, this would add heat to the feud between Flair and Lita.

10. Rhyno

Rhyno

The opening of the forbidden door was something WWE opted for prior to this year's Royal Rumble, with the announcement of Impact knockouts champion Mickie James being an entrant in the women's Royal Rumble.

Rhyno seems like a fairly safe pick, as Impact have already agreed with WWE to allow Mickie in, why not Rhyno too? he has a long history with WWE, inlcuding being one half of the inaugrul WWE Smackdown tag team champions. A return for Rhyno seems more than feasable, so a Rumble entry is definitely on the cards.
